明嘉靖以后,中日关系虽处于低潮,双方的官方贸易断绝,但两国统治阶级中的一些有识之士,对恢复和发展中日友好关系,重开中日贸易,仍做了种种努力,并取得一定成效.由于多种因素制约,终明之世,中日的官方贸易虽未能重开,但在明后期数十年中,随着两国政府对外政策的不断调整与变化,中日双边贸易仍在曲折发展.
