Background and purpose Family medicine residencies are required to stay in the Family Medicine Center (FMC) and see the minimum number of patients. In the past, the resident program requirements set out the shortest possible time for family medicine residencies at FMC but are now replaced by the number of patient visits. In the face of increasing service pressure, residents’ programs can not meet the demand of patients for medical services. Some project managers also face the requirements of the hospital administrative departments that violate the FMC. In this regard, there is still a lack of relevant standards. This article will clarify the average rate of residents continuing to work in the FMC in order to meet the standard requirements. Methods Based on a set of data from the American Academy of Family Physicians’ 2001 Resident Surveys and Residency Directory Questionnaire, the frequency of residency reporting in FMC was extracted. Although the response rate of the survey itself reached 100%, some of the resident directory questionnaires were not fully answered and the final feedback rate was 84% (380/450). As a result, FMC continued its practice in the family medicine residency program for longer than the standard. Conclusion For the current requirements, residents of the Family Medicine Resident Physician Program have been in FMC for more than the required minimum duration.
