一有一个乡下的孩子,生长在矿区。他的父亲是位矿工,工作环境非常危险。村里不时传出矿工发生意外、不幸死亡的消息,因此这个孩子,从小就看了太多的生离死别,体会到人生的无常,背负着比同龄孩子更沉重的包袱。初中时,小小年纪的他就离乡背井,到台北半工半读,甚至一度因为没有钱缴纳学费而休学。他在一家牙医诊所找到工作,负责打扫卫生。诊所里的医生、护士发现这个孩子很奇怪,病患前脚才走,他后脚就拿着拖把拖地,一天下来不知道
