鸡是人类较早驯化的家禽,也是分布最广、数量最多的家禽,因此也有很多植物以“鸡”命名。在以“鸡”命名的植物中,许多是拟形得名,如鸡冠花、鸡腿堇菜、鸡爪槭、鸡眼草、鸡蛋果等;也有因颜色而命名的,如金鸡菊、鸡血藤、鸡蛋花等;还有一些是因与雉类其他物种相近而得“鸡”名,如锦鸡儿等。此外,还有以质感、气味或者味道而得名的植物,如鸡矢藤、鸡肉参等。
