The transition metal-terminated nitrogen-containing complex with the characteristic M = N double bond is an important class of metal complexes. Some internationally renowned metalloorganic chemists, such as Bergman R G from Berkeley University and Schrock R R from MIT, have made great progress in the study of metal-bound nitrogen-binding boron (IVB) and (VB) metal complexes. However, the rare earth metal (Group IIIB) terminal nitrene complex has been permanently absent. Compared with the IVB and VB metal ions, the orbital energy levels of the rare earth metal ions are poorly matched with the p orbital energy levels of the nitrogen guest ligands, and the rare earth metal = nitrogen double bonds are very unstable and the synthesis is more challenging.
