周代有干舞、宋时有蛮牌舞反映战争生活。民族英雄戚继光在抗倭中发明的瑞安藤牌舞,就是这些武舞的延续。1957年,瑞安藤牌舞参加第二届全国民间音乐舞蹈会演并获得优秀奖,全体演员在中南海怀仁堂受到周恩来、朱德等中央领导的接见。2007年7月,瑞安藤牌舞列入第二批浙江省非物质文化遗产名录,2011年6月列入第二批国家级非物质文化遗产名录扩展项目。
