昌老名俊卿,字仓石,号缶庐,又号苦铁,晚岁始更名昌硕。浙江安吉县人,生于清咸丰甲辰年。在太平天国时,全家离乡,据云其母及妻均死于乱离之中。壮岁进学之后,至苏州做盐大使小官,曾任安东知县,只一月即免职。甲午之后,吴大潋革职回吴门,昌老即在其家作清客,时昌老刻印已自成一家面目矣(他早年刻印专学吴让之,开始亦为西泠奚、黄一路人手,篆书学杨沂孙,行楷学黄小松,醇雅异常,与晚年之剑拔弩张迥乎不同也)。昌老性喜以刀乱刻,
