Several neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease are related to the depletion of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. The authors developed a method for increasing GABA in leaves of Morus alba L. by a variety of anaerobic treatments, and studied the neuroprotective effects of this mulberry leaf on ischemic injury. The mulberry leaf powder is extracted with 85% methanol at 85° C. for 1 hour, filtered, and the resultant (ML) is evaporated through a vacuum to dry the solvent; the powder is used 3 times.
