In April 1997, a famous British economist, 1996 Nobel Laureate in Economics paid a visit to China. On April 14, with the help of Professor Zhang Weiying, the student from China’s State Economic Restructuring Commission and Professor Maurice, journalists He Fan and Feng Xiaoming interviewed him on the first day when Professor Morris arrived in Beijing. At the same time, Fortunately, invited Professor Zhang Weiying and Professor Yu Yongding to participate in the interview. Professor Morris has long been a professor at Oxford University. Professor Zhang and Professor Yu were former Morris students at the PhD in Oxford. Their participation made our interview exceptionally successful. Professor Yu Yongding and Professor He Liping (Ph.D. in Economics from the University of London) also gave great help in preparing the interview outline. In his room at the Imperial Hotel where he stayed, Professor Morris told us about the Nobel Prize for Economics, about his most familiar information economics, about his feelings about China and his advice on the economics of China - - He talked all the way, laughing, unknowingly spent more than an hour with us. Professor Morris’s most important contribution to economics is his analysis of information and incentives. We believe his current visit to China has also brought valuable information and inspiration to the Chinese economists. Our report is an exclusive interview that Professor Morris accepted during his visit to China. In the UK, Professor Morris rarely interviewed by the media. What touched us in particular was that after the interview, Professor Morris also brought back the English version we compiled to Britain, correcting them verbatim. Thanks to Professor Morris
