1978年我赴美演出之前,史若虚老校长就要我到母校教课。后来俞琳院长、荀令香剧院长也曾对我谈过兼课的意思。直至1988年,我才欣然领命。从此一发而不可收的五年教学实践,不但为我的艺术生活带来新的欲望,更使我清醒地认识到教学育人是百年大计,以及它对京剧事业一代一代传下去的重要性。我过去虽然教过许多青年演员,却没在正规课堂教过学生,因此担心幼苗难扶、误人子弟。我在正式进入课堂之前的备课准备
Before I went to the United States to perform in 1978, Shi Ruoxu, the old headmaster, asked me to teach in my alma mater. Later Yu Lin Dean, Xun Ling, director of the theater also told me about the meaning of concurrent classes. Until 1988, I was pleased to command. Since then, the five-year teaching practice that has been put on the scene not only brings new desires to my artistic life, but also makes me realize clearly that teaching and educating people is a hundred years plan, and how important it is to pass on the cause of Beijing Opera from generation to generation. Although I have taught many young performers in the past but did not teach students in the regular classrooms, I was concerned about the nurturing of young people and their mistakes.
