As an essential part of emotion between people, love plays an important role in life. Different countries have different views on love, resort to literary works, but also show different style and characteristics. The enthusiasm and romance deeply rooted in the French nation make French literature show the character of “Gaul Spirit” in the description of love. However, the tragedy consciousness in the depths of Japanese nation is strongly reflected in the works of love and has resulted in the aesthetic concept of “sorrow”. This paper explores the differences between love depictions in French and Japanese literary works by taking the two works of “Stars of Dourdie” and Kawabata Yasunari “Dancing Girl of Izu” as an example.
