中阳县地处黄河中游,西北黄土高原东缘,秦、汉、唐、宋时,此地曾有灿烂的古代文明,中阳民俗剪纸就是扎根于这块黄土地上的一束朴素的山花.她产生于久远的年代,应当地群众民俗活动而久盛不衰,积淀了中华民族古老的审美观念和美学意识,具有极高的文史价值.中阳民俗剪纸在造型上体现了秦汉时代的艺术风格,并且保留了原始艺术纯朴粗扩的特征,还具有相当丰富的文化内涵,许多纹样堪称历史的活化石.从中阳民俗剪纸所表现的内容来看,大致可分为三大类:
