列宁是遭到刺杀之后病重,于1924年1月21日18点50分,在莫斯科的高尔克村溘然去逝,年仅53岁。为了缅怀这位无产阶级的革命导师,苏联政府决定在莫斯科红场修建列宁墓,永久保存列宁遗体,供苏联和世界人民瞻仰。最初的列宁墓是临时性的。在列宁去世后三天,用木料在红场上搭起一座方形的陵墓,供人们悼念。1924年春,在红场上建造了一座木质的大型列宁墓。这年8月,列宁墓对外开放。
After being assassinated, Lenin became seriously ill. At 21:50 on January 21, 1924, he died in the village of Gork, in Moscow, at the age of 53. To cherish the memory of the revolutionary mentor of the proletariat, the Soviet government decided to build the Lenin Tomb in Red Square in Moscow and permanently preserve the remains of Lenin for the respect of the Soviet Union and the people of the world. The first Lenin tomb was temporary. Three days after Lenin’s death, wood was used to set up a square mausoleum on Red Square for people to pay tribute to. In the spring of 1924, a large wooden Lenin’s tomb was built on Red Square. In August this year, Lenin’s tomb was opened to the public.
