为针对我国公路工程特点并与国内外进行土工技术交流,“公路土工试验规程”(以下简称“规程”)提出了一套全新的土分类方法。按该分类法进行土分类,要先按土的颗粒大小及其含量把土分为巨粒土、粗粒土及细粒土三种;然后,再按土、砂、石所占比例及颗粒级配等情况进行细分。对于细粒土则须按塑性图进行细分,再分为低液限、中液限、高液限及很高液限的粘土或粉土,而不再采用颗粒分析的方法。但是,假若用塑性图分不清是粘性土抑或粉性土时,则仍须作颗粒分析试验加以区别。现转录土分类表如表一。从表中可以看出,按照这种分法,细粒土的土名可以分出30种,粗粒土的土名可以分到58种,巨粒土的土名则可达到一个相当惊人的数字,2332种。近来,我们试用了这种新的土分类方法。根据我们在测设工作中使用的结果来看,普遍认为新法
