Objectives The following guidelines are intended to guide single-line workers in performing various automated and manual apheresis processes, providing appropriate care for blood donors and patients, and collecting safe, high-quality ingredients. Because of the reasons for the apheresis and the variety of environments (emergency hospitals, independent blood centers, and commercial institutions), the nuclear guidelines are summarized to allow widespread adoption while avoiding duplication of regulations as much as possible. Federal government, state, and local regulations may impose more stringent requirements than this standard. The purpose of education and training is to ensure that the apheresis process is operated and controlled by qualified personnel to protect recipients of blood donors, patients, and constituents. Guideline 1, the entire workforce must be those who have been properly trained and educated in a souce operation. A. Training should include the following points, but is not limited to these points: 1. Training of venipuncture techniques, including the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system.
