台商投资大陆始于1983年。1987年台湾当局开放民众赴大陆探亲,间接促使台商赴大陆投资进入快速发展阶段。1992年台湾有关部门以正面表列形式准许部分制造业产品项目到大陆投资,从而首次使台商赴大陆投资合法化。1993年,台商对大陆的投资达到高潮,据外经贸部统计,当年台商与大陆共签订10948个投资项目,协议投资金额达99.7亿美元。目前在大陆外来投资份额中,台资仅次于港资,名列第二。而对于台湾来说,大陆已成为其最大的对外资本输出地。据外经贸部统计,截至1996年底,大陆累计批准台
Taiwanese investment in the mainland began in 1983. In 1987, Taiwan authorities opened people to visit relatives on the mainland and indirectly caused Taiwan businessmen to invest in the Mainland to enter a period of rapid development. In 1992, relevant departments in Taiwan approved the investment of some manufacturing product projects on the mainland in a positive form, thus for the first time legitimizing the investment by Taiwan businessmen in the mainland.
