最近,我重读科学出版社出版《中国近代工业史资料》第二辑,发现下册在“薛南溟的土地投资”标题下,引用《新创造》2卷1、2期合刊《江南农村衰落的一个索引》一文内容,与薛福成家族的事实不相符合,是一条有关薛福成家族张冠李戴的错编经济史料。该史料说:“前清嘉庆年间为(无锡)礼社薛姓地主(薛福成、薛南溟家族)全盛时期。……洪杨起义时,薛氏练乡勇保卫地方,甚且远征苏常”①。句中括号内文字,系编者所加。这样就有三个问题必须商讨:一是与薛福成家族历史状况相符否;二是薛福成家族在太平天国后期办过团练吗;三是该史料能否用来“说明薛氏家族早期情况”②。薛福成是两次鸦片战争后成长起来的知识分子,是早期维新思想代表人物之一,是外交家与政论家。他一生著述甚多,研究者不少,所以,对上述资料有辨正的必要。
Recently I read the second edition of the “History of Modern Chinese Industry” published by Science Press and found that under the title of “Xue Nanming’s Land Investment,” I quote the article “New Creation”, Volume 2 and Article 2, “The Decline of the Rural Areas in Jiangnan An index ”a text content, and the fact that Xue Fucheng family does not match, is a misunderstanding of the economic history of Xue Fucheng family Zhang Guan. So there are three issues that must be discussed: first, whether it is in line with the historical situation of the Xue Fucheng family; second, whether the Xue Fucheng family conducted a group training in the latter part of the Taiping Rebellion; third, whether the historical data can be used to “explain the early situation of the Xue family.” Xue Fu-cheng, an intellectual who grew up after the Opium War, is one of the representatives of early reformers and a diplomat and political commentator. He wrote a lot of life, a large number of researchers, so the above information is necessary.
