Myelosuppression is an effective dose-limiting toxicity associated with induction chemotherapy in adults with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and is an important cause of infection. In the induction chemotherapy period, the mortality caused by infection is related to age, with about 3% of young people, and the mortality rate of older people aged 50-60 years is >20%. Decrease often forces chemotherapy to be delayed. This study investigated whether administration of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) to adult ALL during induction chemotherapy prevents the development of treatment-associated neutropenia and infection and the resulting delay in chemotherapy. Patients and Methods Patients were newly diagnosed patients from 19 centers from January 1992 to April 1993. This article is a prospective, randomized phase III study, complete after the first 4 weeks of phase I induction chemotherapy as per protocol
