From the perspective of environmental politics and economics, James Boyce studied the environmental effects of inequality of wealth and power. Boyce pointed out that the impact of environmental damage on people is a reflection of the distribution of wealth and power; the extent of environmental degradation depends on the degree of inequality. Relatively modest economic and political differences tend to produce less environmental damage. Therefore, obtaining the ownership of environmental resources democratically and creating natural assets can not only alleviate the poverty of the poor, but also promote the sustainable development of the environment. Boyce’s research has opened up an important gap in the study of environmental issues and also provided some enlightenment for us to understand the socialist values of ecological civilization.
