杨志玖先生对蒙元史的研究,主要集中在马可波罗来华、回回人和探马赤军等国内外高度关注的热点问题上。《隋唐五代史纲要》等又是新中国隋唐史教学和研究的拓荒作。他以精微考证见长,既注意继承乾嘉考据学,又大量吸收西方的历史与语言考证法,据实求真,不倦求新,以小窥大,见微知著,善于从一般史料中捕捉和解决大问题。他的治史路径方法堪称“独断之学”和“考索之功”兼备,值得我们弘扬和借鉴。
