陕西的建材工业,基本上是解放后逐步发展起来的。到1986年,全省已有独立核算的建材企业2037个,职工16万多人,拥有固定资产12.2亿元,实现总产值9亿元,实现利税1.7亿元,分别占全省工业总产值与工业税利总额的4.9%和6.6%。其中由陕西省建材局归口管理的全民所有制企业有213个,拥有固定资产8.24亿元,实现总产值4.45亿元,实现税利11315万元,分别占全省建材工业总产值与利税总额的49.4%和66.5%。
