道家崇尚自然的哲学思想与人生态度对中国的传统艺术产生了深远的影响。作为道家代表人物的老子和庄子尽管都强调回归自然,但各自的思想又不尽相同。熊秉明先生在《中国书法理论体系》中曾指出:《老子》有‘天下皆知美之为美,斯恶己’,‘五色令人色盲,五音令人耳聋’的论述,其哲学观点是反对人为加于自然的各种作为,所以是反艺术的。而庄子则不同,庄子的哲学观点是艺术家的,他是带着惊异与赞美的眼光观察天地间的一草一木,
