The amount of precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) in the cell compartment of bleached softwood kraft pulp is up to 0.3 g per gram of fiber. Fiber was pre-treated with a retention aid, cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM), and the higher temperature (75 ° C) was used during filling of the cell compartment. Under the combined action of temperature and alkaline conditions, the functional groups of the polymer are hydrolyzed to become anionic. As a result, the electrostatic attraction of fibers pretreated with polymers and the electropositive PCC increased. The experiment also investigated other variables including the effect of beating and the mass ratio of fillers to fibers on the filling of the cell compartment.
