1943年3月10日,日军侵占华容。在两年多时间里,日军杀害华容民众14000多人,掳走大量粮食、棉花、牲畜等物资。日寇的暴行,激起了中华儿女的强烈反抗。这年11月,李先念率领的新四军第五师江南挺进支队横渡长江,开辟了以桃花山为中心的石(首)公(安)华(容)抗日根据地,这是抗战时期湖南唯一的敌后抗日根据地。江南挺进支队横枪跃马桃花山,给了日本侵略者以沉重打击。
March 10, 1943, the Japanese invaded Hua Rong. In more than two years, the Japanese killed more than 14,000 people in Huarong, abducting large quantities of grain, cotton, livestock and other materials. The atrocities of the Japanese invaders have aroused the strong opposition of the sons and daughters of China. In November this year, Li Xiannian, the fifth division of the New Fourth Army, advanced the Jiangnan advancing detachment across the Yangtze River and opened up the anti-Japanese base of Shih (Shou) Base area. Jiangnan advance into the detachment cross-gun Ma Pehuashan, gave the Japanese aggressors a heavy blow.
