《翻译通讯》1982年第5期从毛姆的自传性散文“The Summing Up”中选录了一个章节,题为“Lucidity,Simplicity,Euphony”,作为翻译练习,并附有参考译文(以下简称《译文》)。该刊1983年第11期又刊登了《从一篇译文谈起》(以下简称《谈起》)一文,对《译文》中的某些译法提出意见。恰好这个章节本人也曾译过,因此颇有兴趣地把《译文》和《谈起》一文比较仔细地研究了一遍,觉得二者都还存在着一些值得商榷的问题。为了促进对翻译理论的讨论,现将我个人对二者的意见分别提出如下。
Translating Newsletter No. 5, 1982 selected a chapter from Maugham’s autobiographical prose “The Summing Up” entitled “Lucidity, Simplicity, Euphony” as a translation exercise with a reference translation (hereinafter referred to as “ Translation). In the 11th issue of 1983, the article published ”Talking from a Translation“ (hereinafter referred to as ”Talking“) and put forward some opinions on certain translation methods in ”Translation“. I happened to have translated this chapter, so I was quite interested in a more careful study of ”translation“ and ”talking about" and thought that there are still some issues that are worth discussing. In order to promote the discussion of translation theories, I present my personal opinions on the two as follows.
