在宁夏灵武市的临河镇,有我国目前唯一保存最为完整的古代立体军事防御堡垒,其建筑体系令人叹为观止,它的名字叫红山堡藏兵洞。红山堡藏兵洞位于刀削斧劈似的大峡谷上,建于明朝正德十六年(公元1521年)。据史书记载,红山堡最多驻军达1251名,设守堡将军一名,领烽堠八墩。红山堡土筑城垣,周约1里有余,仅有东门套着瓮城,瓮城门洞由石砖垒砌如今依然坚固。而神秘莫测的藏兵洞位于峡谷的两侧,并与长城、城堡共同构成一个完整、神秘的防御体系。藏兵洞分上下两层,总长度在3公里左右,两层之间有垂直木梯相通。2006
