A pyrometer element consists of two ferroelectric capacitors and one differential circuit, the latter used to determine the difference in polarized charge, voltage or current between two ferroelectric capacitors. The pyrometer element is flooded multiple times, and the integrating circuit connected to the differentiating circuit then provides an enhanced output signal representative of the difference in integration. A row of such pyrometer elements forms an infrared imager in which one of the ferroelectric capacitors in each pyrometer element is illuminated by an infrared light source and the other ferroelectric capacitor is uninfluenced by an infrared light source.
