2002年左右,我开始收一些民间玩意儿,收那些东西就得去农村,正好赶上了庙会,后来发现兴趣点倒不在民间艺术,而是庙会的整体气息。农村的庙会不仅仅是卖东西,它还有一些民间的游艺活动,烧香拜佛,庙会生态特别丰富,甚至其中的一些我感觉可能全世界都在流行,也有一些特别原始的东西,比如说有一个小竹凳,做的很简陋,座位中间有个窟窿是给小孩拉屎用的。庙会从原始到国际流行之间有着特别厚的文化容量,就像是世界的一个切片。我从荷兰回国后做的第一件作品就叫《庙会购物》。我赶了两天庙会,花了一个月工资,回来后给
Around the year of 2002, I started to collect some folk stuff. When I received those things, I had to go to the countryside just to catch up with the temple fair. Later, I found the point of interest was not folk art, but the whole atmosphere of the temple fair. The temple fair in rural China is not just for selling things. It also has folk entertainment activities. It burns incense and pray for Buddha. The temple fair is particularly ecologically rich. Even some of them feel that the world may be popular and there are some very primitive things. For example, there is a Small bamboo stool, very simple to do, there is a hole in the middle of the seat is for children shit use. The temple has a particularly thick cultural capacity, from primitive to international, as a slice of the world. The first piece I did after I returned from the Netherlands was called “Temple Fair Shopping.” I fought two days temple festivals, spent a month’s wages, come back later
