The government of India plans to submit new rules and regulations on genetically modified crops to the cabinet in late March. The new policy will lay emphasis on the advice of last year’s expert group to simplify the process of approving genetically modified crops. The Group of Experts called for the approval process of the complex genetically modified crops, which currently include many government departments, to be replaced by a single independent authority for the formulation of national agricultural biotechnological regulations.
