明代以后,寿山石、青田石成为印章的主要材质,印章在刻制上容易起来,于是在书画家、文人乃至官员中普及开来。印章分为两大类,一类是名章,刻上自己的名号或书斋名,还有一类是闲章,把自己喜爱的词句提纲挈领地刻出来,别有一番天趣情趣乃至谐趣。民国时期著名画家吴湖帆,二三十年代在上海享有盛名,
After the Ming Dynasty, Shoushan Stone and Qingtian Stone became the main materials of the seal. The seals were easy to engrave, and they were popularized among calligraphers, literati and even officials. Seal is divided into two categories, one is the name chapter, engraved with their own name or book vegetarian name, there is a class is idle chapter, engraved outline of their favorite words out of the territory, do not have some fun days and even fun. Wu Hufan, a famous painter of the Republic of China, enjoyed a good reputation in Shanghai in the 1920s and 1930s.
