在干旱地区,利用可灌溉地区的传统育种方法,比较成功地进行了小麦产量改良。这主要是由于小麦矮秆甚因的作用,使小麦在干旱地区如同在育成地可灌溉地区一样,能获得较好的产量。为了确定进一步改良旱地小麦产量的方法,这里讨论两个育种途径。第一是传统的或经验的产量选择方法;第二是对干旱条件下有利的性状而不是对产量进行选择的分析方法。传统育种方法注重在最好条件下进行选择,而分析方法则注重选择在干旱环境下对产量有利,但在较湿润环境下对产量不会有害的性状。
In arid regions, the use of traditional breeding methods in irrigated areas has resulted in more successful wheat yield improvements. This is mainly due to the very small effect of wheat dwarf that allows wheat to achieve better yields in arid areas as in irrigated areas. To determine ways to further improve dryland wheat production, two breeding approaches are discussed here. The first is a traditional or empirical method of yield selection; the second is an analytical method that selects for favorable traits under drought conditions rather than for yield. While traditional breeding methods focus on the selection under the best conditions, analytical methods focus on the selection of traits that are favorable to yields in arid environments but not harmful to yields in more humid environments.
