目前公路、铁路等山岭隧道一般还是用爆破法开挖,作为山岭隧道合理化的施工方法,从现有的技术水平来看,应广泛运用掘进机。然而,至今掘进机只用于水工隧洞和上下水道这类圆型断面,而对于马蹄形断面的公路和铁路隧道几乎都未采用,原因是开挖成圆形断面则会多开挖,而不经济。因此,像公路隧道这种扁平形状,要求经济的、能开挖成椭圆形断面的新型机械。日本(财)先端建设技术中心和民间4社共同重点开发使以前掘进机的开挖面向前倾斜而得到椭圆断面,从而研究出一种新的机种“椭圆断面掘进机”。现已用椭圆断面掘进机的试验样机进行实验,但尚处于中间阶段。
At present, mountain tunnels such as highways and railways are generally excavated by blasting method. As the construction method of rationalization of mountain tunnels, from the current technical level, it is suggested that tunnel boring machines should be widely used.
