威廉·福克纳是20世纪与海明威齐名的美国文学巨匠。其思想深受亨利·柏格森强调变化和生成的生命哲学的影响。《喧哗和骚动》中的人物创作说明,人不能固守在过去或现在之中,也不要试图控制时间的流动,而是应该去适应变化。那些不能接受变化的人,最终不是自我毁灭就是遭人毁灭;而那些能够在时间和变化之间建立和谐的关系的人,才可以幸存下去。
William Faulkner is a famous American literature master with Hemingway in the 20th century. His ideas are deeply influenced by Henry Bergson’s emphasis on the life philosophy of change and generation. Character creation in The Sound and the Fury shows that one can not stick to the past or the present, nor try to control the flow of time, but rather to adapt to change. Those who can not accept change will eventually either be self-destructive or destroyed; those who can establish a harmonious relationship between time and change will survive.
