The U.S is expected to withdraw all its combat troops from Afghanistan by the end of 2014.In order to ensure its smooth and timely evacuation and to guarantee stability in the country after the U.S.withdrawal,the United States has taken a series of measures, including pressing for the domestic political reconciliation process in Afghanistan, stepping up efforts to train the Afghan national army and police force, and promoting regional economic cooperation as represented by the "new silk road"program. As 2014 approaches, however, the security situation in Afghanistan remains unoptimistic. As such, the Americans are showing a strong will to cooperate with China and other relevant countries. As an important neighbor of Afghanistan,China has the responsibility and obligation to continuously promote stability and economic development in Afghanistan,South Asia and the central Asia region after 2014.In the future, will China and the United States continue to strengthen cooperation in Afghanistan? If so,then, what bases, principles, and fields of cooperation do they share? What problems and challenges do they face? These questions will form the main contents of this paper.
