西部采矿有限公司卡尔古利闪速冶炼厂对镍渣矿物学进行了研究。由于硫化物精矿中有剩余的硅酸镁,从而生成富镁橄榄石,使渣熔点提高。加入石灰可降低熔点,而在缓慢冷却渣中加入石灰,会生成辉石。磁铁矿和硫化物也存在于所有的渣中。转炉渣含有成分接近铁橄榄石的橄榄石,以及方铁矿、磁铁矿和少量硫化物。闪速炉膛中的炉结成分大量的是磁铁矿,其次是橄榄石,与闪速炉渣中的磁铁矿与橄榄石成分相同。然后,炉壁积垢却由大量铁酸镍和镍铁橄榄石组成。
Western Mining Co., Ltd. Kalgoorlie flash smelting nickel slag mineralogy was studied. Due to the sulfide concentrate in the remaining magnesium silicate, thereby generating magnesium-rich olivine, the slag melting point increased. Adding lime reduces the melting point, whereas adding lime to the slowly cooled slag produces pyroxene. Magnetite and sulfide are also present in all the slag. Converter slag contains olivine with similar composition to fayalite, as well as siderite, magnetite and a small amount of sulfide. The mass fraction of the hearth in the flash furnace is magnetite, followed by olivine, which is the same composition as the olivine and magnetite in the flash slag. Then, the furnace wall fouling is composed of a large number of nickel ferrite and nickel feldspar.
