肖培根,药用植物学家,中药和药用植物资源研究的开拓者,1994年当选为中国工程学部首批院士。他长期致力于药用植物的资源研究,并有“中草药的活辞典”、“当代李时珍”等等美誉。20世纪50年代初:他主持了中国中药资源的首次普查,他主编的《中药志》、《中国本草图录》、等著作,系统总结了我国中药及药植物的资源概况,受到了国内外的好评。在药用植物调查研究的基础上,还对沙棘等重要药用植物进行了研究和开发。目前他正致力于药用植物亲缘学学科的建立和这方面的基础理论研究。
