根据大量资料证明,儿童和青少年时期需要身体的活动,以促进身体健康的发展,推迟和予防年长时期健康方面的某些衰退。人体的可塑性在生长时期是最大,特别是青春期。同时在生长时期,也最容易受有害环境的影响,例如缺少营养、疾病、不良精神状态与社会环境,以及缺乏身体活动等。当这些因素不利的时候生长发育受到妨障,发育的潜力不能充分发挥出来。其结果到成年时身体的形态和机能都较差。一个成年人想补偿他青年时期未达到较好的身体机能发展是有困难的。所以他到成年时,虽然尽一切可能,也很难通过训练使他较差的心脏血管机能达到较好的水平。因此在青春时期,适当的身体活动是最重要的。
