Banana is one of the most important cash crops in the Windward Islands of the Eastern Caribbean. Single and intercropping are common. A survey of cultivation systems conducted by Henderson et al. In the Windward Islands and Saint Lucia in 1979 showed that smallholders have intercropped bananas and perennial fruit trees, food crops and vegetables. In other tropical regions, intercropping of bananas (or plantains) with food crops is also reported. Its advantage is to increase economic income, reduce construction costs.
