美国史学家威廉·麦克尼尔于1963年发表的《西方的兴起——人类共同体史》,是当代史学家撰写全球史的一个重要开端。麦克尼尔强调生态变化、疾病传播、物质、文化交流及战争对科技的促进,在全球历史进程的重大作用。此后许多有关人类生存状况、文化科技交流、经济发展与扩张的史学研究都采用了全球史的角度,取得了突出的成就。本特利教授主编的《世界史杂志》在全球史研究中起到了重要作用。
The rise of the West - a history of human communities published by American historian William McNeil in 1963 is an important beginning for contemporary historians in writing global history. McNeil emphasizes the significant role of ecological change, disease transmission, material, cultural exchange and the promotion of science and technology in the global history of the war. Since then, many historical studies on the conditions of human existence, cultural, scientific and technological exchanges, economic development and expansion have adopted the perspective of global history and achieved outstanding successes. Professor Bentley’s “World History Magazine” played an important role in the study of global history.
