在欧美各国,传统医学被称为补充医学或非正规医学。由于各国政府对传统医学重视程度不同,因此各国传统医学在国内所处的地位及医疗水平也存在一些差异;在欧美一些国家,非正规医学虽与正规医学并存,但各国对两种医学的态度不同,有的国家对非正规医学给与支持和重视,有的国家非正规医学受正规医学的排斥。值得一提的是,美国自九十年代开始,逐渐重视非正规医学,目前在美国的卫生保健系统中,非正规疗法占有很重要的地位。在英国伦敦举行的第10届补充医学研究会(RCCM)的年会上,蒙克顿先生就欧美各国传统医学进展情况做了概述。
