改革开放以来,贵州社会经济取得长足发展,生产总值年均增长率达到9.5%,按可比价格计算,从1978年到2008年,生产总值增长14.1倍,人均增长9.69倍。能源产量大幅度增加,原煤由1978年1669万吨增加到11798万吨,增长6.07倍;发电量由41.43亿千瓦时增加到1192.08亿千瓦时,增长27.77倍,能源已经成为贵州省工业生产体系中的主要优势行业。主要能源除了满足本省发展需要外,还东输到两广地区支持发达地区的发展,能源基地的地位逐步凸显。
