No functional clench teeth or molars are often referred to as bruxism. Much of the evidence in recent forty years supports that bruxism is one of the most common, complicated and devastating diseases of dental disorders. This article discusses the special effects of bruxism on natural teeth and proposes treatment. Etiology: bruxism is a complex disease that includes many factors. Causes include (1) psychic, (2) emotional, (3) odontogenic, (4) systematic, (5) occupational and / or (6) spontaneous. Romfjord and others support the spirit and occlusion factors are the main reason. Increasingly proven factors such as the type of occlusion, the position of the tooth, the activity of the tooth, the type of mandibular movement, the shape of the tooth and the repair play an important role in the etiology of bruxism. Effects on Teeth: Bruxism can cause tooth movement, breakage, press-in, protrusion, separation of points of contact, tooth displacement, tooth erosion, abrasion or dental pulp lesions. 1. Tooth wear: Abnormal tooth wear is the most common symptom of bruxism. Xhonga study confirmed: “bruxism teeth wear faster than non-bruxism.”
