假如我是语言学家,大概我也会做语言学家们一向做着的那些事情。他们倾听人们说的话,用很长时间反复思考如何从中找出关于词、关于表达方式、句子、句子末尾声调抑扬的一般性的特殊规律、法则、类型、体系。然而,我却认为不能离开人研究语言,不仅不能把语言作为纯粹的语言现象对待,而且,恰恰相反。语言是某些人的职业、类型、集团、文化以及一定的世界观的表现。我知道这不是什么新观点,但我认为我们的语言学并没有进步
If I were a linguist, I would probably do the same things that linguists have always been doing. They listen to what people say and take a long time to think repeatedly about how to find general rules, laws, types, and systems about expressions, sentences, and tone at the end of sentences. However, I think it can not be left without people to study the language, not only can not be treated as a purely language phenomenon, but, on the contrary. Language is the manifestation of certain occupations, genres, groups, cultures and certain worldviews. I know this is not a new idea, but I think our linguistics has not improved
