商业部担负着统管国内商业,研究拟定国内商业工作的方针、政策、法规、规划,组织全国商品的流通,指导、协调、管理、监督各种经济成份和各种流通渠道的商业活动及研究商业体制改革等职责。 1982年,根据中央决定,原商业部、粮食部、全国供销合作总社合并成立了新商业部。为了适应新形势下改革、开放、搞活商业工作的需要,部领导决定加强档案机构的职能,将原商业部档案科、粮食部档案处、全国供销合作总社档案科合并,成立了商业部档案处,由办公厅一位副主任分工领导,并配备了档案专职干部。档案处下设档案业务指导科、档案保管利用科、资料科和图书馆,负责商业部机关的档案、图书、资料工作及90多个(现因机构下放,只有46个)部直属企、事业单位的档案业务指导、监督和检查工作。全处共有工作人员24人,其中档案专职干部17
