吕斯百(1905-1973),江阴人,早年由徐悲鸿推荐留学法国巴黎高等美术专科学校、法国Julian油画研究院深造,投P.A.Laupen门下,回国后历任中大艺术系教授、系主任,南师大美术系主任,为我国早期留法的著名油画家之一。吕斯百的油画作品质朴无华,率真淡泊,一如他谦和坦诚的为人。他虽没能给我们留下震撼画史的宏构巨制式的大型主题创作,但在他那一幅幅朴实近人、充满纯粹艺术品味的静物画与风景画里,有着极为出色、高度精堪的艺术表现技巧。油画语言透过褐黄、赭红、橄榄绿的色彩表层,向人们诉说着这位不炫于外却极度辉煌过的油画大师。
