薛用弱,字中胜,唐河东(今山西永济一带)人,生卒年不详,任过刺史等官职。其生平资料十分稀少。《集异记》又题《古异记》,集隋唐间所传诡奇之事编撰而成,属于唐人传奇类作品。虽然真实性待考,但文辞叙述婉转隽永,颇具可看性,其中故事也经常为后人所引用,或改编为其他体裁,流传很广,《四库全书总目提要》因此盛称“其叙述颇有文彩,胜他小说之凡鄙”。薛用弱的名字也因此流传于世。
