美国作家亨利·詹姆斯的小说是美国现实主义的代表。而他的文论作品,特别是一些给自己创作的小说写的序言,体现了他对于小说创作独特而完整的理论体系。其中最受称赞、对之后的美国文学发展最具影响力的,就是有机说。詹姆斯的后期作品之一《使节》被认为是詹姆斯艺术创作的巅峰之作。本文将以《使节》为例,分析詹姆斯的小说有机说在这部作品中的具体表现。
American novelist Henry James’s novels represent American realism. His prefaces to literary works, especially those written for himself, exemplify his unique and complete theoretical system for the creation of novels. One of the most acclaimed and the most influential in the development of American literature later is the organic theory. One of James’s later works, “Envoys” is considered to be the pinnacle of James’s artistic creation. This essay will take “Envoys” as an example to analyze the concrete manifestation of James’ organic novel in this work.
