This article presents some of the epidemiological issues that have contributed to the development of the schistosome vaccine. 1. Schistosomiasis infection and distribution: It has been confirmed that schistosomiasis is endemic in 75 countries and has a disease population of about 200 million and a threatened population of about 500 million to 600 million. Schistosoma mansoni and S. schistosome exist in 53 countries. Of the 40 countries where Manchurian and Egyptian schistosomiasis are endemic and 6 countries with an epidemic of inter-schistosomiasis are interested in schistosome vaccine. 2. Classification of Infections: Quantitative techniques currently used in epidemiological investigations include Kato’s method and urinary filtration method.
