ObjectiveTo evaluate the antioxidant activity of different extracts from Dalbergia odorifera T.Chen leaves, and their correlations with the contents of total flavonoids.MethodsThe aqueous extract from D.odorifera leaves was fractionated into four extracts using 3 different organic solvents of petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate and water. The DPPH radical scavenging activity assay, superoxide radical scavenging activity assay, hydroxyl radical scavenging activity assay, peroxide scavenging activity assay, and nitric oxide scavenging activity assay were employed to evaluate the antioxidant activities. The contents of total flavones were measured by Aluminum salt complex method, and ascorbic acid as the positive control.HPLC method was adopted to analyze their fingerprints. Results The four extracts from D.odorifera leaves have varying degrees of in vitro antioxidant activity, which were ranked in descending order: ethyl acetate extract(EAE),chloroform extract(CE),water extract(WE) and petroleum ether extract(PE).The antioxidant activities of these extracts were positively correlated with total flavonoids contents. Conclusions Antioxidant components could mainly exist in the ethyl acetate extract, and the antioxidant capacity is positively associated with the content of total flavonoids.
