I particularly like Germany’s small city, which is a product of harmonious combination of natural scenery and history and culture. Freiburg, at the junction of Germany, France and Switzerland, is the gateway to the southern Black Forest, making it an ideal base for trips to Alsace, France and Basel, Switzerland. The small town of 150 square kilometers and a population of about 200,000 has experienced more vicissitudes and catastrophes than any other German city. Freiburg was founded in the 12th century and was sheltered by the Habsburgs in the mid-14th century.
